U.S. Moves to Label Polisario as Terrorist Group Amid Rising Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty Over Western Sahara

A severe blow to the military junta… The United States is on the verge of listing the Polisario on its terrorism watchlist, and Trump reaffirms recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara.

Republican Congressman Joe Wilson announced the introduction of a bill in the U.S. Congress to classify the Polisario militia, supported by the Algerian military regime, as a terrorist organization, also warning against the activities of Iran, Russia, and Cuba in support of the mercenaries in the region.

In a tweet, Wilson expressed agreement with Senator Marco Rubio, stating that genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the only feasible solution for the Sahara. He added, “I will introduce legislation to designate the Polisario as terrorists. Iran & Putin are gaining a foothold in Africa via the Polisario. Connect the dots: axis of aggression.”

Wilson’s stance aligns with the Moroccan initiative for autonomy, which he deems as “the only viable solution” to resolving the conflict. He cautioned that “Iran, Cuba, and Vladimir Putin are active in the region supporting the Polisario with the aim of destabilizing the kingdom, which enjoys the support of President Donald Trump, who has long recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.”

The American congressman’s move is not coincidental, as it follows a crucial meeting between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Sebastian Gorka, the senior director for counterterrorism at the U.S. National Security Council. This indicates that Morocco’s battle against the Polisario’s terrorism is beginning to take on an international dimension, and the classification of this entity, backed by the Algerian army, as a terrorist organization is becoming imminent.
