The interim committee managing the affairs of the press sector honors prominent figures in national media at the Book Fair in Rabat.
The interim committee overseeing the press and publishing sector is set to honor four of Morocco’s most prominent media personalities on Friday, April 25, as part of the activities of the 30th edition of the International Book and Publishing Fair, being held in Rabat from April 18 to 27, 2025.
The honorees include Nadia Salah, Thouraya El Safi, Mohamed Bahiri, and Jamal Mohafed, in recognition of their lengthy professional careers and significant contributions to the development of the national media landscape, as well as their continuous defense of professional values and Morocco’s image both domestically and abroad.
The ceremony will take place at the “Horizon” space within the fair, starting at 3:30 PM, with the attendance of industry professionals and numerous actors interested in media issues and ethics.
In a press statement, the committee emphasized that this honor is part of an effort to appreciate the contributions of Moroccan journalists who have significantly contributed to the establishment of a professional, free, and responsible media that meets societal expectations and upholds ethical standards.
Noteworthy professional careers:
– Nadia Salah: One of the founders of the “Ecomedia” group, which publishes the newspapers “L’Economiste” and “La Maghreb,” and contributed to launching “Atlantic Radio.” She studied political science and financial economics, starting her career at “L’Opinion” before becoming editor-in-chief of “La Vie Économique” and helping to establish a leading media group.
– Thouraya El Safi: An experienced journalist who has presented programs and news bulletins for the Mediterranean International Radio, as well as the first and second Moroccan TV channels. She has covered significant national and international events and has conducted interviews with prominent political figures in her talk shows.
– Mohamed Bahiri: A well-known media figure in the French language on Moroccan radio and television, with a career spanning over four decades. He has held prominent production and editorial positions and has followed crucial political, cultural, and sports events in Morocco’s history.
– Jamal Mohafed: A writer and researcher in media and public law, he has held senior positions at the Maghreb Arab Press agency and has served as a visiting professor at several universities. He has taken on union and professional responsibilities and currently heads the Maghreb Center for Studies and Research in Media and Communication.
This recognition underscores the interim committee’s intention to acknowledge the capabilities of national media professionals and to enhance journalism’s role in supporting the democratic process and promoting Morocco’s image both locally and internationally.
