The Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Juan Carlos Salazar, praised Morocco’s global leadership in the civil aviation sector during a meeting on Wednesday in Doha.

Salazar expressed his admiration for the scale of ongoing projects in Morocco, stating that they will enhance the infrastructure of civil aviation, facilitate connectivity, and ensure the smooth flow of passenger movements.

He explained that the meeting also served as an opportunity to reaffirm the extensive cooperation between the organization and the Kingdom of Morocco, emphasizing the country’s initiatives to develop the civil aviation sector.

He confirmed that discussions included the upcoming global symposium on the support for implementation in the civil aviation field, scheduled to be held in April 2026 in Marrakech, which will address solutions related to issues affecting civil aviation.

Transport and Logistics Minister Abdeslam Ouressa noted in a similar statement that the important meeting, which was also attended by Morocco’s ambassador to Qatar, Mohamed Stri, covered several topics, including Morocco’s signing of the Chicago Convention on Civil Aviation and the Kingdom’s candidacy for a seat at the organization during the elections to be held next September in Canada, during which the organization’s structures will be renewed.

The minister added that various other issues related to the global symposium on implementation support in civil aviation, which will take place in Marrakech with the participation of more than 135 countries, were also discussed, alongside the topics to be addressed in this symposium.

In the same context, the minister concluded that the meeting highlighted the Kingdom’s commitment as a leading country in the field of aviation to meet its obligations, through the adoption of new measures to facilitate passenger movements within airports, ensuring fluidity, safety, security, and passenger comfort.
