Rachid Talbi Alami, the President of the House of Representatives, held discussions on Tuesday at the council’s headquarters in Rabat with Carlos René Hernández, the President of the Central American Parliament, who is on an official visit to Morocco leading a significant parliamentary delegation.
According to a statement from the House of Representatives, this visit aims to strengthen cooperation between the two legislative institutions. The delegation is set to visit the southern provinces of the Kingdom “to learn about the major projects and development initiatives ongoing there under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him.”
The statement continues that during the meeting, the President of the Central American Parliament praised the comprehensive development taking place in Morocco’s southern provinces under the astute leadership and vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, expressing gratitude and appreciation for the Moroccan Parliament’s support for the integration process in Central America through fostering partnership and cooperation with the Central American Parliament, “which genuinely embodies South-South cooperation.”
Talbi Alami expressed the House of Representatives’ pride in the ten years since the Moroccan Parliament became an observing member of the Central American Parliament, and in the fruitful cooperation between the two sides during this time.
On this occasion, he emphasized the importance of building a renewed partnership between the two parliaments for the next ten years, based on shared values and principles, including respect for the territorial integrity of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, and the promotion of democracy and human rights.
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss avenues for cooperation and the exchange of experiences on topics of mutual interest, including migration, climate challenges, food security, sustainable development, and the advancement of women’s conditions, among others.
It is worth mentioning that the Moroccan Parliament, in both of its houses, joined the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) as an observing member on June 16, 2015. This parliament serves as a framework for regional integration in Central America and includes six countries: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic.
