The fourth edition of the training course for African election observers was inaugurated today, Monday, in Rabat, with the participation of high-ranking officials representing 52 African countries.
The opening ceremony of this training course was chaired by Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, along with Bankole Adeoye, the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security.
This annual event, organized in partnership with the African Union’s Department of Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, is part of Morocco’s commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, to a stable, secure, and prosperous African continent.
It also responds to the decisions made at the conference of African Union Heads of State and Government, including those from the recent summit in February 2025, which called on Morocco to continue strengthening African capacities to enhance the conduct of election observation missions.
Additionally, this fourth edition features the participation of over 120 young people from civil society actors, experts, and senior officials from the five regions of the African continent, representing 52 countries including Mali, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Guinea, Niger, and Sudan. Notably, women make up 68 percent of the total number of participants in this edition.
The 2025 edition will also host the second forum for dialogue on democracy and elections in Africa under the theme “Integrated Governance… Enhancing Women’s Leadership in African Electoral and Democratic Frameworks,” which will enrich the training course by addressing topics centered around political dialogue in relation to the challenges of democracy, governance, and electoral processes in Africa.
It is worth noting that this fourth edition represents a crucial milestone in the training journey in Rabat, aimed at providing the African Union with an important database to support the election observation process in Africa and to promote democracy, peace, and security on the continent.
