Rabat Hosts the Permanent Headquarters of the African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions

On Wednesday, an official agreement was signed in Rabat establishing the Moroccan capital as the permanent headquarters of the African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (Afrosai). This step enhances Morocco’s position as a center for African cooperation in governance and financial transparency.

The agreement was signed by Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, and Zineb Aloudi, the organization’s Secretary-General and President of the Court of Accounts. The agreement outlines the operational framework for the organization’s work within the kingdom, along with its commitments and the privileges granted to its headquarters.

This signing follows Morocco’s election, represented by the Court of Accounts, as Secretary-General and hosting institution during the organization’s General Assembly held in Tripoli, Libya, in December 2024, reinforcing regional confidence in Moroccan institutions.

Rabat’s hosting of Afrosai’s permanent headquarters confirms Morocco’s strong commitment to establishing the rule of law, particularly in managing public finances. It reflects the kingdom’s approach to enhancing cooperation with African nations through the exchange of expertise and sharing best practices in financial oversight.

This agreement is also a strategic lever for the Court of Accounts to strengthen its relations with its African counterparts, within the framework of the royal vision aimed at enhancing South-South cooperation and placing transparency and good governance at the heart of African public policies.

This collaboration will contribute to improving the performance of auditing bodies across the continent, enhancing their institutional and professional capacities, thereby bolstering their role in effectively responding to citizens’ needs and achieving comprehensive and sustainable development in Africa.
