The House of Councillors has announced that it will organize, in partnership with the Association of Senates, Shura and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World (ASOSAI), the third edition of the South-South Parliamentary Dialogue Forum on April 28 and 29 in Rabat.
In a statement, it was clarified that the forum is held under the auspices of King Mohammed VI, bearing the theme: “Inter-regional and continental dialogues in Southern countries: a key lever to confront new challenges of international cooperation and achieve peace, security, stability, and joint development.”
The same source added that “the organization of this forum comes as an implementation of the royal vision aimed at promoting South-South cooperation, through opening up to regional experiences and strengthening parliamentary dialogue mechanisms among Southern countries, as a lever to enhance economic integration, achieve sustainable development, and consolidate peace and stability.”
The statement indicated that “this event, which features significant participation from various councils, organizations, and parliamentary unions from Southern countries, reflects the growing importance of joint parliamentary work in light of numerous regional and international challenges.”
The forum sessions will serve as an opportunity to showcase investment opportunities and assess the potential and prospects for South-South cooperation, aiming to establish broader regional integration, elevate priority sectors, and build effective strategic partnerships that contribute to expanding trade exchanges and enhancing economic relations among Southern countries.
The organizers confirmed that “this parliamentary meeting aims to deepen discussion and enhance consultation on issues of joint development and regional integration, allowing for the formulation of practical recommendations that would support the efforts of the relevant governments and institutions.”
The statement stated that “the forum’s program includes an inaugural session, followed by a high-level summit for the heads of legislative councils and participating delegations, dedicated to exchanging views on mechanisms to strengthen joint parliamentary work and build promising strategic partnerships,” while the remaining activities will revolve around key issues, including “the role of inter-regional parliamentary dialogues in promoting integration, economic cooperation, and joint development among Southern countries, as well as ways to leverage modern technology and artificial intelligence to serve development and industrial advancement in these countries.”
