Electricity production has increased by 4.7% nationally during the first two months of 2025, following a rise of 9.5% a year earlier, according to the Financial Studies and Forecasts Directorate at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The Directorate explained in its latest newsletter that this growth is attributed to a 7.2% boost in private electricity production and a 4.5% increase in production from the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water.
Conversely, the same source noted that renewable energy production under Law 09-13 experienced a decline of 12.1%, after a significant rise of 61.3% a year ago.
Regarding electricity exchanges with foreign countries, imports grew by 33.8% at the end of February 2025 compared to a 36.2% decrease a year prior.
As for exports, they saw a drop of 36.1% after an increase of 146.7%. Meanwhile, net energy production rose by 5.4% at the end of February 2025, somewhat matching the 5.5% recorded during the same period last year.
In terms of electricity consumption, it remained stable at 15.6% for the first two months of 2025 after an increase of 1.8% recorded last year.
This growth is attributed to an exceptional rise in energy sales directed to automated distributors (up 92.9%) and high and very high voltage energy outside of automated distributors, primarily used in the industrial sector (up 67.8%).
However, medium and low voltage energy sales dropped by 69.6% and 59.2%, respectively, in the first two months of 2025.
