Germany is facing a severe shortage of truck drivers, prompting the personal services company “Capa” in Mainz to adopt a new recruitment model targeting drivers from outside the European Union, particularly from Morocco.

The company announced the availability of a comprehensive training program that covers all necessary qualification stages for Moroccan drivers, from their selection to their integration into the German job market.

Bernd Albrecht, the director of Capa, explained that traditional recruitment avenues within the European Union have nearly dried up, noting that countries like Spain and Portugal now need their own drivers following improvements in their economic conditions.

He also warned that the end of the war in Ukraine could lead to many Eastern European drivers returning to their home countries, exacerbating the crisis in Germany and Poland, describing this scenario as “having dire consequences for the German driver market.”

Capa launched a 12 to 16-week training program that includes German language courses, theoretical training, and practical training in Germany, providing German driving licenses for categories “B” and “C,” with optional “CE” for truck drivers, and “B” and “D,” with optional “DE” for bus drivers. The program also includes a first aid course and the issuance of a driver card for digital registration, with the company covering all administrative procedures, including visas.

Capa allows German companies to get to know the Moroccan candidates early through virtual interviews or by attending recruitment days in Morocco, with a planning period of 26 to 36 weeks from contract signing to the start of work, or 18 weeks for drivers who have already begun training.

The company pointed out that many Moroccan candidates are learning German quickly, despite challenges related to the non-recognition of Moroccan driving licenses in Germany.

A large transport company in southern Germany has become one of the first contractors with Capa to employ Moroccan drivers, a step aimed at providing long-term solutions to the workforce shortage crisis.

This project, according to the company, comes amid an urgent need for drivers in Germany, which is experiencing a significant shortage in this sector due to economic and demographic challenges, thus opening new avenues for Moroccan talent in the European market.
