Mr. Bourita Meets with His Ecuadorian Counterpart

Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita held a working session in Quito with Gabriela Sommerfeld, Ecuador’s Foreign Minister and Minister of Human Mobility.

During this meeting, Bourita was accompanied by Farida Ldaya, Morocco’s Ambassador to Colombia and Ecuador.

In a statement to the press, Bourita noted that his visit to Ecuador marked the first by a Moroccan Foreign Minister since diplomatic relations were established in 1988, emphasizing that it represents a “historic moment for our bilateral relations.”

He added that “the two countries have opened a new chapter in their bilateral relations following President Noboa’s decision in October 2024 to suspend relations with the self-proclaimed Sahrawi Republic.”

He explained that “since that moment, and under the instructions of His Majesty the King and President Noboa, we signed a roadmap to develop a South-South relationship between two geographically distant countries that share many common interests.”

Regarding the areas of bilateral cooperation, he stated, “We have developed cooperation in various fields of mutual interest, including economic, agricultural, and humanitarian dimensions, through the provision of scholarships.”

On this occasion, the Ecuadorian Minister announced the imminent opening of her country’s embassy in Rabat, which will be Ecuador’s first diplomatic representation in the Maghreb region.
