On the occasion of its 69th anniversary, the General Directorate of National Security reaffirms its commitment to security, modernization, and citizen service.
The National Security family celebrates, today, May 16, 2025, the 69th anniversary of the establishment of this prestigious security institution. This moment serves as a symbolic occasion to reaffirm the commitment of the National Security apparatus to perform its duty in protecting the nation and its citizens, as well as to renew the pledge of dedication and discipline to bolster public security and establish community trust in police work.
This anniversary is an important annual milestone for evaluating the security performance, showcasing achievements, and highlighting new developments within the agency, particularly regarding the continued modernization of its structures and the enhancement of operational tools, alongside solidifying principles of sound security governance, community policing, and collective security production—concepts that today frame the new operational philosophy adopted by the General Directorate of National Security.
Since its establishment on May 16, 1956, the General Directorate of National Security has been keen to keep pace with increasing security challenges by adopting a proactive approach to combating crime, enhancing operational readiness, modernizing security and logistical infrastructures, and investing in specialized training for personnel.
In recent years, the agency has undergone profound transformations, notably by enhancing the presence of women in its ranks, where they have assumed responsibilities that demonstrate their competence, while also focusing on the development of scientific and technical policing, as well as bringing criminological expertise closer to field research teams.
The Directorate has also worked to strengthen its proximity to citizens through qualitative projects, the most notable of which is the widespread accessibility of the electronic national identity card. In 2024, 80 equipped mobile units were deployed, serving more than 130,000 citizens in both urban and remote rural areas.
In the realm of digital transformation, the “E-Police” portal was launched to provide integrated digital police services interactively and user-friendly, enabling remote identity verification and facilitating the processing of administrative requests while ensuring the protection of personal data.
As part of enhancing security presence in new urban centers, 19 new security facilities were established in 2024, aligning with the objectives of the security strategy for the period 2022-2026, which aims to boost crime-fighting capabilities, modernize forensic laboratories, and develop criminal investigation methods while fully respecting human rights.
Among the notable initiatives is the development of the “Report” digital platform, launched in June 2024, which allows citizens to report cyber and criminal threats within an effective framework for community involvement in security prevention.
Operationally, anti-gang units have been equipped with non-lethal weapons and advanced equipment, along with new means of transportation. These teams are also supported by trained police dogs, enhancing their capacity to respond to various security challenges.
In light of the kingdom’s preparations to host major sporting events, sporting security has been reinforced with the establishment of new regional teams and the provision of qualified human resources and infrastructure to secure football events, especially with the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2025.
On the international cooperation front, the efforts of Moroccan national security were crowned with the election of a candidate from the General Directorate of National Security as Vice President of the “Interpol” organization for the African continent during the 92nd General Assembly of the organization, reflecting international recognition of the Moroccan security model.
Socially, support was also provided through the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Social Works of Security Personnel, which offered financial assistance and in-kind support to more than 1,600 beneficiaries, along with special support for widows and retirees.
Celebrating the 69th anniversary of the National Security institution embodies a national recognition of its efforts in serving citizens and ensuring their safety, solidifying its image as a modern, professional, and effective institution that successfully blends stringent security requirements with respect for human rights, earning the appreciation of Moroccans and the trust of international partners.
