European football fans are turning their attention this Tuesday evening to the "San Siro" stadium in Milan, which will host a highly anticipated match between Inter Milan and Barcelona in the second leg of the 2025 UEFA Champions League semifinals, following an exhilarating first leg that ended in a 3-3 draw at "Montjuïc".
This upcoming match not only carries the weight of sporting revenge but also represents a historic battle for a spot in the final of the continent’s most prestigious tournament, with impressive statistics and a rich history between the two clubs.
The first leg between Inter and Barcelona started with a bang, as Marcus Thuram etched his name in history by scoring the fastest goal in UEFA Champions League semifinal history just 30 seconds into the match.
Denzel Dumfries added a second goal for the visitors in the 21st minute, only for rising star Lamine Yamal to reduce the deficit with a goal in the 24th minute, becoming the youngest player to score in a semifinal at the age of 17 years and 291 days.
The drama continued as Ferran Torres equalized in the 38th minute, but Dumfries struck again in the 64th minute. However, a rebound from Raphinha off goalkeeper Yann Sommer brought the score back to a tie just a minute later, leaving the outcome of the tie to be decided in the return leg.
The two teams have faced each other 13 times in the Champions League since 2003, with the record favoring the Catalan club, which has secured 6 wins compared to only 2 for Inter, while 5 matches ended in draws. Barcelona has scored 20 goals to Inter’s 13.
Among these encounters, the return leg of the 2010 UEFA Champions League semifinal remains unforgettable, when Inter Milan, led by José Mourinho, eliminated their rival and advanced to the final, ultimately lifting the trophy against Bayern Munich.
