The grain harvest in Morocco is expected to increase by 41% during the 2025 agricultural season, reaching 44 million quintals, according to Ahmed Bouare, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests.

In response to questions during a parliamentary session regarding the progress of the 2025 agricultural season, the minister noted that this improvement positively impacts the agricultural sector, which is anticipated to grow by 5.1% compared to a decline of 4% in the previous season.

Rainfall has improved since March, totaling 295 mm by April 29, which reflects a 20% decrease compared to a normal year but is up 15% from the previous agricultural season. Reservoir levels for agricultural use have risen to 5.31 billion cubic meters, compared to 4.38 billion cubic meters last year, with a filling rate reaching 38%.

The provision of seeds and fertilizers to farmers has seen significant support, with approximately 740,000 quintals of selected seeds sold, marking a 10% increase. Additionally, 1.3 million quintals of nitrogenous fertilizers were distributed, benefiting 78,000 individuals, while 661,000 hectares of grains, legumes, and oilseed crops were secured.

The area planted with major autumn crops reached 3.11 million hectares, with 10% irrigated. This includes 2.6 million hectares of grains, 400,000 hectares of fodder crops, and 100,000 hectares of legumes. Spring crops spanned 158,000 hectares, dominated by corn at 47%, followed by chickpeas (35%) and sunflowers (13%), while dry beans made up 5%.

Sugar crops also saw notable progress, with over 35,000 hectares planted with sugar beets and 1,155 hectares of sugarcane. In the vegetable sector, 91% of the planned autumn vegetable program, equivalent to 97,000 hectares, has been completed, and the area for winter vegetables reached 65,000 hectares, representing 90% of the set target.
