A bizarre incident … “A chicken” leads two young men to prison in Tangier.

The primary criminal court in Tangier has sentenced two young men to one year in prison and an additional year suspended, following their prosecution on charges related to forming a criminal gang and attempted theft.

Investigations revealed that the two attempted to steal a chicken and several pigeons from private property. During the trial session, they admitted to attempting the theft but stated that they backed down at the last moment.

The young men clarified that a third person actually carried out the theft, taking the chicken and cooking it, emphasizing that they did not benefit from the operation or earn anything.

The defense lawyer argued that the case did not warrant being presented before a criminal court, pointing out that the value of the stolen goods did not exceed 60 dirhams, and he requested a reassessment of the charges and a referral of the case to the primary court.
