A Vibrant Canvas: Eleventh Edition of the Jidar Street Art Festival Enriches Rabat’s Urban Landscape

Rabat’s Jidar Street Art Festival, held from April 16 to 26, 2026, has unveiled 15 striking new murals, further solidifying the Moroccan capital’s status as a leading hub for street art in Africa. With this addition, the festival has now contributed a remarkable total of 146 murals since its inception in 2015, aiming to reshape the city’s visual identity.

Transforming Urban Identity

Organizers of the festival revealed that Jidar has played a crucial role over the past decade in transforming Rabat into a prominent center of street art. This year’s festival showcased a rich tapestry of artistic styles and professionalism, drawing participation from both Moroccan and international artists. Murals were strategically placed across various neighborhoods, including Agdal, Océan, and Yaacoub el Mansour, focusing on poignant themes related to identity, memory, and urban life.

Highlights of the Festival

Among the most notable works was a towering piece by artist “RDS,” measuring an impressive 40 meters in height. Other standout contributions reflected Moroccan cultural symbols such as lanterns, lions, and intricate plant motifs, alongside works that addressed pressing issues like equality, environmental connections, and human experiences. This year’s festival saw the addition of approximately 2,500 square meters of murals, raising the total painted area since the festival’s launch to over 20,000 square meters, engaging more than 250 artists throughout its various editions.

A Workshop for Emerging Talents

A significant feature of the festival is the so-called “shared wall,” which serves as an open workshop for emerging artists. Festival director Salah Mellouli emphasized its importance as a “real incubator for Moroccan muralists” before they advance to larger artistic projects within the city. This initiative not only nurtures local talent but also enhances the cultural fabric of Rabat.

A Legacy of Artistic Collaboration

Established in 2015 by the Boulevar Association for Artistic and Cultural Education, the Jidar Festival builds on a long-standing commitment to promoting urban arts and culture in Morocco since 1999. Today, it stands as one of the most important events related to street art in Rabat, fostering collaboration, creativity, and cultural expression throughout the city.
