Cosumar Group is set to solidify its presence at the 2026 International Agriculture Exhibition in Morocco (SIAM), held under the patronage of King Mohammed VI. As a pivotal player in the agricultural sector, the company aims to enhance food sovereignty and the sustainability of the national sugar industry amid shifting dynamics in food security and environmental efficiency.

Strengthening Agricultural Presence

This year’s exhibition theme, “Sustainability of Animal Production and Food Sovereignty,” underscores significant transformations within the agricultural sector. Cosumar has announced its ongoing commitment to creating a competitive and resilient sugar supply chain, partnering with over 80,000 farmers across the country. Recent fiscal results showcase the effectiveness of this collective model, particularly in facing climate-related challenges.

Impressive Production Figures

In the 2024/2025 season, Cosumar recorded an impressive yield exceeding two million tons of sugar beets—a remarkable 74% increase from the previous season—alongside the production of 278,000 tons of sugarcane. This surge facilitated the extraction of approximately 281,000 tons of locally sourced white sugar, marking an increase of nearly 50%. As the 2025/2026 season begins, optimistic indicators emerge from improved rainfall and reservoir levels, which have risen to approximately 73%. This progress is set to enable sugar beet cultivation across nearly 43,000 hectares, with aspirations to expand to 60,000 hectares by the 2026/2027 timeframe, alongside an additional 10,000 hectares for sugarcane.

Ambitions for 2030 and Beyond

These developments align with a strategic contract for 2030, which aims for local production of 620,000 tons of white sugar, thereby bolstering national autonomy. Cosumar is integrating smart agriculture technologies, employing advanced digital solutions such as artificial intelligence, drones, and the “Tayssir” platform. This system facilitates real-time production monitoring, connecting over 46,000 users with approximately 2,420 agricultural machines—resulting in an 80% reduction in water consumption for certain processes and a 30% decrease in agricultural inputs, thereby improving overall efficiency.

Industrial Capacity and Economic Impact

On the industrial front, Cosumar maintains a production capacity of 2.5 million tons, supported by the Sidi Bennour refinery, enabling the company to meet domestic demand while expanding into international markets. In 2025, the group exported 853,000 tons to over 80 countries, with an ambitious target of reaching one million tons by 2026. Financially, Cosumar reported revenues of 10.5 billion dirhams, with an operating margin of 1.3 billion dirhams and net profits nearing 704 million dirhams, primarily driven by its export activities.

Social Responsibility and Diversification Efforts

Demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility, Cosumar creates nearly 5 million workdays annually, injecting approximately 3 billion dirhams into producing regions to support local development. As part of its diversification strategy, the group recently launched a project to produce liquid carbon dioxide at its Casablanca refinery, representing an investment exceeding 500 million dirhams with an initial capacity of 20,000 tons per year. This initiative aims to reduce imports and bolster industrial sovereignty.

During the SIAM 2026 exhibition, Cosumar will showcase its agricultural achievements, feature a space dedicated to smart farming, and offer training workshops for over 500 farmers. An interactive exhibit will also document the history of Morocco’s sugar industry, blending heritage with innovation.
