The Progressive and Socialist Party Warns of Deteriorating Purchasing Power Crisis

In light of the ongoing rise in fuel prices and its direct impact on citizens’ purchasing power, the Progressive and Socialist Party has called for urgent measures to mitigate the effects of the crisis. The party emphasized the need to cap fuel prices and reduce the taxes imposed on them during a meeting of its political bureau held yesterday, March 24.

The party stated that the government support provided to the transportation sector remains “limited in effect and selective,” noting that it only covers a narrow category of professionals and does not reflect significantly in market prices or on the situation of families and businesses. It highlighted that this measure has been previously implemented without achieving the desired results.

Amid increasing living pressures, the party stressed the necessity for a more bold and effective government intervention, by regulating fuel prices and ensuring their stability, along with securing an adequate strategic stock to protect the national economy from fluctuations in international markets.

Additionally, the party proposed a package of measures that includes setting price ceilings, imposing reasonable profit margins on distribution companies, and reducing value-added tax and internal consumption tax, along with reviewing customs duties on some essential goods. This aims to alleviate the severity of the rise in prices and support the purchasing power of Moroccans.
