Pope Calls for Peace in the Middle East and Urges an End to War and Resumption of Dialogue

Pope Leo XIV renewed his call for peace in the Middle East during the Angelus prayer on Sunday, emphasizing the urgent need to end the war and resume dialogue among conflicting parties.

“Dear brothers and sisters, for two weeks now, the peoples of the Middle East have been suffering the devastating consequences of war,” he said during the weekly prayer at the Vatican.

He reiterated his solidarity with all those who have lost loved ones in attacks on schools, hospitals, and residential areas, stressing that the situation in Lebanon is particularly alarming.

The Pope addressed those responsible for the conflict, stating, “Stop the fire! Let the doors of dialogue open again, in the name of the Christians of the Middle East, and in the name of all women and men of goodwill.”

He concluded by asserting that “violence never leads to justice, stability, or the peace that people yearn for.”
