Morocco Elevates Digital Ambition: “GITEX Africa 2026” Transforms into a Platform for Shaping the Future of Technology on the Continent

Less than a week before the fourth edition of “GITEX Africa Morocco” kicks off in Marrakech, Rabat chose to send strong signals regarding the stakes of this edition during a press conference held in the capital on March 31, attended by officials leading the digital transformation initiatives.

The meeting, which included the Minister of Digital Transition and Public Administration, Amal Al-Falah Al-Saghrouchni, and the Director General of the Digital Development Agency, Mohamed Mazouari, unveiled a new direction for the exhibition, evolving from a showcase of innovations to a more influential role in shaping digital policies across the continent.

The data presented reflects a shift in the nature of the event, as the 2026 edition focuses on sensitive and strategic issues, primarily digital sovereignty, cybersecurity, protection of critical infrastructure, and expanding the use of artificial intelligence within African economies.

This transformation highlights Morocco’s ambition to move from hosting technological events to becoming an influential actor in guiding their dynamics, especially amidst escalating international competition for attracting digital investments and establishing regional technology hubs.

In this context, the outlines of a government vision emerged, aiming to integrate digital transformation with artificial intelligence within a comprehensive approach that positions the state as a player combining framing, organizing, and strategic guidance, relying on the Digital Development Agency as the executive arm to coordinate efforts between public and private stakeholders.

The Moroccan endeavor is based on several pillars, including institutional stability, the development of digital infrastructure, and the availability of human competencies capable of keeping pace with rapid transformations. These factors enhance Morocco’s prospects of becoming a technological hub at the African level.

As the date of the event approaches, it is clear that “GITEX Africa Morocco 2026” is no longer just an annual event, but a tool within a broader strategy aimed at solidifying the Kingdom’s position within the digital economy landscape on the continent, attracting investments, and fostering innovation dynamics in Africa.
