Morocco is the guest of honor at the International Book Fair in the Mexican state of Tabasco.
The festivities have commenced in Villahermosa, the capital of Tabasco in southeastern Mexico, with the International Book Fair organized by the Autonomous University of Tabasco, featuring Morocco as the guest of honor this edition. The cultural event brings together writers, academics, and publishers from Mexico and several other countries, celebrating literature, thought, and dialogue between cultures.
This year’s program includes intellectual symposiums, academic lectures, and literary meetings, alongside cultural activities that highlight the rich literary and civilizational heritage of the participating countries.
In this context, Morocco is participating with a cultural program that features lectures and intellectual meetings, in addition to the presence of Mexican author Alberto Ruy Sánchez, known for his literary works inspired by the Moroccan city of Essaouira.
This event will also witness the signing of an academic cooperation agreement between the Autonomous University of Tabasco and Abdelmalek Essaadi University in Tetouan, aimed at enhancing scientific exchange, encouraging student and faculty mobility, and developing joint research projects between the two institutions.
During the opening ceremony, Morocco’s Ambassador to Mexico, Abdel Fattah Elbar, emphasized that Moroccan participation in this event represents an opportunity to strengthen cultural and human ties between the two countries. He pointed out that book fairs serve as a platform for dialogue among peoples, knowledge exchange, and building bridges of understanding between cultures.
The ambassador noted that Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, places great importance on cultural dialogue and academic exchange as fundamental means to promote closer ties between peoples.
It is worth mentioning that relations between Morocco and Mexico, which date back to 1962 when diplomatic relations were established, have seen significant development across various fields, especially cultural and academic ones.
This marks Morocco’s second participation in a cultural event in the state of Tabasco, following the Moroccan cultural week held in Villahermosa, Mexico City, and Alamos in Sonora state last January, which allowed the Mexican audience to appreciate the richness of Morocco’s cultural and civilizational heritage.
