Tunisian Esperance Delivers a Harsh Lesson to Egyptian Al Ahly, Snatching a Ticket from the Heart of Cairo

Egyptian Al Ahly bid farewell to the CAF Champions League in the quarter-finals after losing to Tunisian Esperance 2-3 in the second leg held at their home ground on Saturday evening.

Despite a strong start from the hosts, with Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet opening the scoring in the tenth minute by successfully converting a cross, the team could not maintain their lead. Esperance turned the tables in the second half, clinching victory during stoppage time.

The Moroccan referee managed the match well, appearing decisive and fair in his various decisions, avoiding any notable controversy, which contributed to a competitive atmosphere throughout the game.

On the other hand, Al Ahly’s performance declined significantly in the second half, as the team seemed mentally absent and lacking focus. Esperance capitalized on this, making a comeback with two goals from Danho and Toujay. Although Marwan Othman restored hope with an equalizer, Hamza Al-Jalasi snatched the winning goal in the dying moments, securing passage for Esperance.

With this victory, the Tunisian team achieves a historic win over Al Ahly in Cairo and advances to the semi-finals, awaiting their opponent from the match between South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Mali’s Stade Malien.
