Morocco Presents Food Resilience Model to a Committee at the Council of Europe

Morocco showcased its experience in enhancing food sovereignty and resilience in the face of global crises during a meeting of the Social Affairs, Health, and Sustainable Development Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, held today, Friday, in the French capital, Paris.

During this meeting, parliamentary member Allal Al-Amraoui, part of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation to the Council of Europe, delivered a presentation on the approach adopted by the Kingdom in managing food security issues. He highlighted that public policies and agricultural strategies implemented by Morocco have contributed to strengthening its ability to confront the repercussions of international crises and the growing effects of climate change.

The speaker noted that recent years have seen significant transformations in the national agricultural system, particularly regarding the management of natural resources, especially water. Additionally, programs have been launched to support agricultural operations and encourage innovation and training, all while adopting approaches that prioritize environmental sustainability.

Al-Amraoui emphasized that these measures have helped maintain stable food production and improve farmers’ incomes, thereby enhancing Morocco’s capacity to ensure its food security despite the climate and economic fluctuations occurring globally.

In this context, the Moroccan parliamentarian put forward a draft resolution calling for the appreciation of the Moroccan experience and its sharing with countries in the Euro-Mediterranean region and beyond, to promote the exchange of expertise in building more sustainable food systems capable of withstanding crises.

Al-Amraoui confirmed, in a statement to the Maghreb Arab News Agency, that the committee unanimously approved this proposal, highlighting that the next phase will include the preparation of an informational report on the Moroccan experience in this area.

It is worth noting that Morocco has held the status of “Partner for Democracy” at the Council of Europe since 2011, a status that allows it to participate in the annual sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly involving parliamentarians from 46 member states, alongside representatives from partner and observer countries.
