Vikam Announces the Organization of Its 24th Edition in Meknes Celebrating Youth in Animation Cinema
The International Animation Film Festival in Meknes, Vikam, has announced the organization of its 24th edition, set to take place from May 15 to 20, 2026, in the city of Meknes. This reaffirms its position as an essential event for animation cinema in Morocco and across Africa.
This event is organized by the Aicha Foundation in partnership with the French Institute in Meknes, continuing to establish itself as a key platform for creativity, training, and exchange in the field of animation cinema.
The organization of this edition follows the success of the 2025 edition, which focused on animation and video games and attracted over 23,000 visitors. This year, Vikam continues to explore contemporary creative fields by highlighting the key players shaping the future of the sector.
The new edition will be held under the theme “Youth Create Animation Cinema,” a focal point through which Vikam reiterates its commitment to supporting and showcasing the talents of young Moroccan professionals in animation-related careers.
Since its inception, the festival has aimed to support training and cultural mediation by providing training workshops and spaces for dialogue and idea exchange between emerging talents and industry professionals at both national and international levels. Film screenings, workshops, practical lessons, and professional meetings are essential drivers for stimulating creativity and enhancing the national animation cinema ecosystem.
Education plays a central role in the Vikam program, as the festival remains committed to visual literacy through programming aimed at school outings, alongside organizing awareness and educational workshops for students.
These activities will particularly take place at the French Institute in Meknes, allowing a wide school audience, which reached around 6,000 students during the previous edition, to discover the language of animation cinema and develop a critical and creative perspective toward visuals.
In this context, the festival will host the fifth edition of the Professional Forum for Animation Film, which will run from Friday, May 15 to Sunday, May 17, 2026. It will center around issues related to the connection between training and employment in animation careers.
This forum aims to create a space for exchange, dialogue, and opportunity building by encouraging meetings between young talents and Moroccan studios, directors, producers, and professionals within a dynamic framework aimed at structuring the sector, promoting local production, and enhancing the exchange of ideas and skills both nationally and internationally.
Alongside the activities in Meknes, the “Vikam Morocco” event will be organized from May 13 to 23, 2026, extending the festival experience to other Moroccan cities through the network of French institutes across Morocco, aiming to generalize access to animation cinema at the national level.
This initiative reflects Vikam’s connection to local communities and contributes to reinforcing a culture of animation cinema among young audiences while enhancing its future prospects.
A detailed program for the 24th edition is expected to be announced soon, as Vikam reaffirms its commitment to its audience in May 2026, celebrating creative, bold, and aspiring youth looking confidently toward a promising future for animation cinema.
