More than 1,000 Participants in the Trail of Lalla Takerkoust for the 2026 Season

The eighth edition of the Trail of Lalla Takerkoust will take place on February 14 and 15, 2026, reinforcing its status as one of the highlights in Morocco’s trail running calendar and a distinguished annual event near Marrakech. This event is organized by Trail Morocco, the pioneer in trail sports in the country since 2018, which launched the first race in the Trail Morocco series, embodying the project’s identity centered on the values of sports, connection with nature, and community commitment.

The 2026 edition is witnessing unprecedented popular and sporting success, surpassing 1,000 male and female participants, reflecting the increasing interest and noteworthy growth of trail sports in Morocco. A strong female presence is noteworthy, with women making up over 40% of the participants, a landmark that validates the sport’s ability to attract diverse demographics and promote the principle of equal opportunities. Additionally, approximately 30% of the runners are from outside Morocco, some having traveled specifically for this event, enhancing the visibility of Moroccan trail running both regionally and internationally.

Regular participants in this race continue to show strong attendance, with an increasing number opting for longer and more challenging distances compared to previous editions, indicating the maturity of the trail community and the evolution of the event, as well as its capacity to foster a sustainable relationship with athletes.

The stunning setting of Lake Lalla Takerkoust this year benefits from heavy rainfall in recent months and snowfall in the High Atlas, resulting in lush green paths and refreshing topography, creating a breathtaking panorama not seen in the region for over three decades, thereby providing an ideal environment for the race.

The Trail of Lalla Takerkoust serves as a platform for interaction among economic actors as part of the “Hôtels en Forme” initiative, where partners and hospitality institutions come together to promote the values of sports, collective solidarity, and professional well-being. The 2026 edition highlights the commitment of sponsors and partners to the sports, social, and environmental values of Trail Morocco, within a sustainable vision that merges athletic performance with social responsibility.

On Saturday, February 14, the event will host a Kids Trail, a race designed for children to discover trail sports in a fun and educational environment, promoting values of effort, discipline, respect for nature, and solidarity from an early age. The event is also committed to environmental aspects by limiting the number of participants, managing waste responsibly, and raising awareness among runners about the importance of protecting the natural surroundings, alongside launching social initiatives for children and the local community with the aim of preserving the natural site and achieving a positive and sustainable social impact.

This event represents more than just a sporting competition; it is a comprehensive project that combines athletic performance, respect for nature, and community service, supported by strategic partners who accompany the evolution of the Trail of Lalla Takerkoust and share a vision of responsible sports.
