Trump: “Socialist Cuba is on the brink of collapse”

In a visit to Iowa on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that socialist Cuba is “on the brink of collapse,” pointing out that the island no longer receives funds and oil from Venezuela as it once did.

Trump’s remarks come amidst the United States’ control of several oil tankers in recent weeks and his earlier announcement of plans to impose a complete ban on all sanctioned oil tankers heading to and from Venezuela.

Relations between Havana and Washington have been strained for decades, while Cuba is facing its worst economic crisis since Fidel Castro’s revolution in 1959, marked by a severe fuel shortage.

Despite the decline in Venezuelan oil supplies in recent years, supplemented by shipments from Russia and Mexico, observers believe that the Cuban economy could entirely collapse if the United States fully halts the supply of Venezuelan oil.
