The Senegalese Students Union in Morocco denies that any students have faced assaults and affirms that Moroccan authorities ensure the security of everyone.
The central union of Senegalese students in Morocco (UGESM) has denied the circulating news regarding alleged assaults on Senegalese students following the final match between the Moroccan and Senegalese teams, asserting that these claims are unfounded.
In a statement issued in Rabat on January 21, 2026, the union clarified that misinformation has been circulating since Sunday, January 18, on social media and various digital platforms about purported assaults in several Moroccan cities, which raised widespread concern among Senegalese students and their families.
The statement added that, after thorough investigations involving local union branches and regional officials, along with coordination and data collection with relevant authorities, no confirmed cases of assaults targeting Senegalese students have been reported to date.
The central union confirmed that the general situation remains stable and calm, reassuring Senegalese students residing in Morocco and their families that the relations between Senegalese and Moroccan citizens are characterized by peace and mutual respect, and that Moroccan authorities continue to fulfill their duty to ensure the safety of all residents without discrimination.
In this context, the union urged responsibility and wisdom, advising against the spread of unreliable news or information that could provoke anxiety, and emphasizing the importance of relying solely on official channels of the Senegalese Students Union in Morocco and the Senegalese Embassy for accurate and trustworthy information.
The statement concluded by reaffirming that the central union remains in a state of constant readiness and is in continuous contact with the Senegalese Embassy in Morocco to monitor developments and ensure the safety, security, and comfort of Senegalese students on Moroccan soil.
