Senegal Reiterates Its Firm Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity and Affirms Its Backing for the Autonomy Initiative
The Republic of Senegal reaffirmed today, Monday in Rabat, its steadfast and consistent position supporting the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its full sovereignty over its entire national territory, including the southern regions.
This clear stance was articulated in a joint statement issued following the proceedings of the Morocco-Senegal High Mixed Commission, held in the capital Rabat and co-chaired by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch and Senegal’s Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.
On this occasion, the Senegalese side emphasized its full support for the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco, deeming it the only serious, credible, and realistic solution for resolving the regional conflict over Western Sahara, within the framework of respecting Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The statement underscored that this position is part of Senegal’s diplomatic principles, which are based on supporting stability and unity among countries, and a commitment to realistic political solutions solely under the auspices of the United Nations.
This renewed Senegalese position reflects the depth of historical relations between Rabat and Dakar, and the strength of the strategic partnership that unites the two countries, founded on mutual trust and ongoing coordination on regional and international issues of common interest.
