Ould El Rashid Discusses Ways to Strengthen Parliamentary and Economic Cooperation Between the Two Countries with the Vice President of the Mexican House of Representatives

The President of the House of Councillors, Mohamed Belrhid, held discussions today, Monday, in Rabat, with the Deputy Speaker of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies, Secretary-General of the Independent Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico, Pedro Haces Barba, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom.

According to a council statement, this meeting provided an opportunity to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Morocco and Mexico, especially in parliamentary, economic, and social dimensions, amid the positive momentum of their bilateral relations.

The same source noted that Belrhid emphasized during the meeting that the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Morocco, under the wise leadership of King Mohammed VI, is based on enhancing South-South cooperation and engaging with strategic partners from Latin America, notably Mexico, to serve mutual interests and contribute to sustainable development.

In this context, the President of the House of Councillors pointed out that the historic visit by the King to Mexico in 2004 was a pivotal moment that added a strategic dimension to the bilateral relations between the two countries.

On another note, Belrhid considered the Mexican official’s visit particularly significant due to its parliamentary and trade union aspects, presenting opportunities to strengthen cooperation in social, economic, and labor fields, as well as to exchange experiences and best practices.

He confirmed that there are great potentials to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas such as employment and social protection, vocational training, adapting to technological transformations, in addition to strategic industries, particularly automotive and aerospace, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy.

At the parliamentary level, Belrhid highlighted the importance of developing cooperation between the House of Councillors and the Mexican legislative institution, whether at the level of the Chamber of Deputies or the Senate, through activating channels of dialogue, organizing mutual visits, and enhancing coordination within regional and international parliamentary forums.

For his part, the Deputy Speaker of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies affirmed the significance of his visit to Morocco, reflecting the bonds of friendship between the two countries and the shared desire to elevate them to broader levels.

On this occasion, he reviewed the makeup of the Mexican parliament and its role in supporting the reforms the country has undergone in recent years, emphasizing that these reforms have contributed to strengthening democratic governance and advancing legislative work.

He also asserted that Moroccan-Mexican relations are experiencing positive development, given the special attention and care they receive from King Mohammed VI and the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, stressing the importance of strengthening economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries.

During these discussions, both sides reaffirmed the qualifications that Morocco and Mexico possess due to their strategic geographical locations within their regional contexts, considering them promising platforms for trade exchange and investment.

At the conclusion of this meeting, both sides reiterated the importance of continuing coordination and consultation, and strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Morocco and Mexico, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of their friendly peoples.
