Morocco Highlights National Theatre Presence with Two Performances at the 16th Arab Theatre Festival in Cairo
The Moroccan theatre scene continues to assert its strong presence at the Arab level, following the selection of two theatrical works to represent Morocco at the 16th Arab Theatre Festival to be held in Cairo. This reflects the dynamism of the national theatrical experience and the diversity of its artistic and intellectual stakes.
Moroccan participation includes two plays: the first, titled “Windows 5,” by the Art Friends troupe, is authored and directed by Ahmed Amin Sahl. The second, titled “Economic Citizen,” is presented by the Al-Feddan Theatre Workshop, authored by Ahmed Al-Sabbiah and directed by Mahmoud Al-Shahadi. These works combine aesthetic experimentation with a focus on current social issues.
The choice of “Windows 5” stems from the distinguished artistic journey of its director, Ahmed Amin Sahl, who is considered one of the most promising Moroccan theatrical figures. He relies on experimentation and the innovation of contemporary artistic forms that interact with the transformations of modern life and its social and existential questions. Through his works, Sahl aims to question reality using an innovative theatrical language that breaks conventional molds.
On the other hand, “Economic Citizen” offers a comprehensive artistic experience that melds depth of performance with the power of its message. It addresses the topic of elections and the importance of citizen commitment to values and responsibility, all within a gripping dramatic framework that encourages the audience to reflect on their role within society. The play features a distinguished cast including Jalila Talmasi, Aya Jabran, Abderrahim Tameemi, Mohammed Abou, Adnan Qunin, and Yassine Najari, with a scenic design managed by director Tarek Al-Rabeh and produced under the supervision of Reda Al-Dghoumi, alongside communication management by Abdullah Talib to ensure the message reaches the widest audience.
This dual participation of Morocco underscores the status of national theatre within Arab forums, confirming the ability of Moroccan creators to present diverse artistic works that combine aesthetic boldness with a conscious engagement with societal issues, all aimed at enhancing cultural and artistic dialogue between Arab theatrical experiences.
