JTI officially inaugurates its green factory in Tetouan, creating 170 job opportunities.

The multinational company JTI has officially opened its new factory in Tetouan Park, at a ceremony attended by high-ranking local and international officials, including representatives from the company’s senior management and ambassadors from Japan and Switzerland to Morocco.

The advanced industrial project, which took 18 months to complete on a 4.7-hectare site with a constructed area of 18,000 square meters, has an estimated total cost of around 100 million USD and provides 170 direct job positions for local talents.

This factory is the latest facility of JTI globally, raising the number of its industrial operations to 37 sites. It relies on environmentally friendly technologies, including solar energy to cover more than 30% of its energy needs, LED lighting, and automated systems for controlling heating and cooling. The architectural design allows for future production expansion, enabling the factory to produce up to 10 billion cigarettes annually, aligning with the national policy to reduce dependency on imports and enhance local production.

In statements during the ceremony, José Luis Amador, General Manager of JTI for North and West Africa, emphasized that the factory represents the company’s commitment to economic and social development in Morocco and facilitates deeper cooperation with authorities to explore export opportunities to West African markets.

Meanwhile, Phil Livingstone, Global Senior Vice President of Supply Chain, explained that the new factory reflects the company’s efforts to enhance efficiency and sustainability in its industrial operations worldwide.

Ahmed Benis, General Manager for the Tangier Med region, noted that JTI’s addition to Tetouan Park boosts the positive momentum of the industrial platform and adds diversity to the local industrial landscape, affirming Morocco’s attractiveness for sustainable industrial investment.

This project is part of the National Investment Committee’s approval in 2024, benefiting from the dynamism of the 2023 Investment Charter and the national import substitution policy, further establishing Morocco as a strategic industrial and logistics hub in the region.

JTI, a member of the Swiss JT Group, markets its products in over 130 markets worldwide, featuring global brands such as Winston and Camel, in addition to low-risk products like Ploom, Logic, and Nordic Spirit. The company was awarded the title of “Global Employer of Choice” for the eleventh consecutive time in 2025 and recognized in Morocco as the best employer for the eighth consecutive year.
