Eight European countries, including France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, have expressed their support for Denmark and Greenland in the face of U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to impose tariffs amid the ongoing dispute over the status of the island.

In a joint statement, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom declared that “the threat of tariffs undermines transatlantic relations and signals a serious decline in regional balance,” reiterating their commitment to Arctic security as a “shared interest.”

Denmark sought European support after Washington sent repeated signals of its desire to annex Greenland, sparking a new diplomatic crisis between the parties.

In Copenhagen, the Greenlandic government expressed gratitude for the European stance, with Minister Naaja Nathanielsen stating that “the current phase requires courage and responsibility in facing strategic challenges.”
