China Establishes Largest Electric Vehicle Charging Network in the World
The National Energy Administration of China announced on Wednesday that the country has created the largest electric vehicle charging network in the world, capable of supporting the charging needs of over 40 million new energy vehicles.
The authority stated that the total number of electric vehicle charging facilities in the country reached 20,092 by the end of 2025.
It pointed out that the expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in China experienced significant acceleration last year, as the number of charging facilities increased from 10 million to 20 million in just 18 months.
The average power output for public electric vehicle charging stations reached 46.5 kilowatts, marking a 33 percent increase year-on-year.
Additionally, the authority revealed that China has installed 71,500 charging pillars in over 98 percent of highway service areas, achieving complete coverage of all towns in 19 provincial-level regions.
China continues to cement its position as the largest global market for electric vehicles, driven by supportive government policies, massive industrial investments, and rapid expansion of charging infrastructure, making this sector one of the main drivers of energy transition and industrial growth in the country.
Technological advancements have led to reduced production costs and improved battery performance, both in terms of range and charging time, enhancing the competitiveness of Chinese electric vehicles in international markets. This shift is reflected in the rising exports of these vehicles to Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
Leading major Chinese companies, including BYD, SAIC Motor, and Geely, are driving this transformation, alongside a growing presence of specialized startups, as China becomes a global hub for the production of batteries and electric vehicle components, particularly lithium-ion batteries.
