Baitas: We Are Approaching a Promising Agricultural Season and Government Policies Are Positively Impacting the Economy
Mustafa Baitas, the Minister Delegate in Charge of Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesperson, affirmed that data regarding the agricultural season indicate that recent rainfall will contribute to a successful and exceptional agricultural year.
During a press conference following the government council’s works on Thursday, Baitas explained that the cultivated area reached approximately 4.49 million hectares, of which 4.19 million hectares are allocated for autumn crops. This includes 3.66 million hectares for cereals, 429,000 hectares for fodder crops, and 101,000 hectares for legumes and forage.
The government official noted that sugar crops have also shown significant development this season, with the planted area reaching around 44,500 hectares, representing 73 percent of the planned program, with the possibility of further increases. Additionally, the area planted with winter vegetables reached 36,000 hectares, with planting continuing until March 15, while the area allocated for vegetables during the autumn exceeded 100,000 hectares, achieving a completion rate of 94 percent of the targeted program.
Baitas confirmed that these indicators related to rainfall and moisture levels enhance positive expectations for the agricultural season, emphasizing that the Ministry of Agriculture is closely monitoring this progress to ensure its success.
On the economic front, the government spokesperson stressed that recent reports confirm that public policies and measures adopted by the government are beginning to yield tangible results. He noted that national economic indicators are showing positive developments thanks to contributions from the agricultural sector alongside non-agricultural sectors, particularly the secondary and tertiary sectors.
Baitas highlighted improvements in several sectors, including tourism, exports, and industry, noting that the financial resources mobilized by the government, along with the outcomes of social dialogue, have helped enhance income for a wide range of citizens and strengthen the foundations of the social state, especially through direct social support, consumer goods subsidies, and health coverage.
He added that public investment has seen a qualitative leap, rising from around 190 billion dirhams in 2020 to over 380 billion dirhams this year, contributing to the stimulation of the national economy, controlling inflation rates, and boosting growth rates.
In this context, Baitas mentioned that household final consumption rose by 4.4 percent in 2025 and continued on the same trajectory in 2026, considering that these indicators reflect improvements in living standards and service quality, serving as an incentive for the government to continue its efforts in the same direction.
Baitas emphasized that this dynamism has also helped control the budget deficit, expected to decrease to around 3 percent, alongside a reduction in the debt-to-GDP ratio from 72 percent in 2021 to between 65 and 66 percent currently, viewing these results as a reflection of the effectiveness of the adopted government choices.
