A French investigation has revealed the dirty tactics of the Algerian regime in its “covert war” with Paris. The report aired last Thursday on the French government channel “France 2,” under the title “Rumors and Dirty Tricks: The Silent War Between France and Algeria,” exposing the practices of the Algerian military regime and its dubious methods of managing foreign relations, particularly with France, which has stirred shock within media and diplomatic circles.

The investigation, presented as part of the renowned program Complément d’Enquête, highlighted the overarching security mindset governing the dealings of the military institution in Algeria, characterized by suspicion and surveillance and operating through “unusual methods” instead of dialogue and understanding.

One of the main findings was the involvement of Algerian intelligence in covert operations within French territory, notably the case of Algerian activist Amir De Zade, who was kidnapped and held for 72 hours before being released. This incident was regarded by the investigation as emblematic of the controversial security practices in Algeria.

The Algerian authorities did not wait for the broadcast of the episode, issuing an official statement attacking “France 2,” describing the investigation as “a decline of French media aimed at Algeria,” in a clear attempt to cover up the violations unveiled by the report.

Analysts noted that the Algerian regime’s sharp reaction reflects a state of hysteria within the military institution towards any external criticism, asserting that these practices make resuming dialogue with Paris difficult in the near future.

With this investigation, a new chapter in French-Algerian relations is opened, as European media begin to unveil secrets that the Algerian military regime has long tried to hide, while the diplomatic future between the two countries remains clouded in uncertainty.
