The Ministry of Health launches a comprehensive health coverage plan in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has announced the activation of a national integrated health coverage plan in anticipation of hosting the Africa Cup of Nations “CAN 2025” in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. The ministry called upon all stakeholders in the health system at both regional and local levels to mobilize to ensure the success of this continental sporting event.

The ministry clarified that the plan encompasses all regions of the kingdom, even though the matches will be held in six host cities: Agadir, Casablanca, Fez, Marrakech, Rabat, and Tangier. This is due to the anticipated significant tourist movement and travel between regions, as well as the activity at border entry points outside the organizing cities.

The circular addressed to health managers and officials emphasized the necessity of taking all measures to ensure the availability and quality of medical care, maintaining a high level of health safety, as well as the early detection and rapid management of any health emergencies. This includes focusing on limiting the spread of epidemic diseases and ensuring cleanliness in areas with large public gatherings, while continuing to provide health services to other citizens.

The plan includes the establishment of regional task forces that will hold daily meetings during the tournament, activating emergency health plans to manage any potential crowd surges, ensuring continuous medical coverage at stadiums, fan zones, training sites, and accommodations for teams and officials, while also enhancing vigilance in tourist areas and providing mobile medical teams and equipped ambulances.

The measures also involve reinforced epidemic monitoring at health facilities, airports, seaports, and land crossings, implementing protocols for detection, isolation, and investigation of suspected cases, monitoring the quality of drinking water and food, conducting pest and rodent control operations, and activating multilingual communication mechanisms along with media vigilance units to monitor rumors.

The circular concluded with a call for officials to directly oversee the implementation of these measures and to provide the center with daily reports on the progress of health preparations and additional support needs, given the significance of this event on both national and continental levels.
