The government approves monthly allowances for orphans and establishes a construction trades institute in Fez
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch chaired a government council dedicated to endorsing a series of legal texts aimed at bolstering the foundations of the social state and developing training and education sectors. The meeting concluded with the approval of draft decree No. 2.25.1064 concerning the provision of special assistance for orphans and abandoned children residing in social care institutions.
This social initiative allocates a monthly amount of 500 dirhams for each eligible child, which will be deposited into individual accounts opened with the deposit and management fund, in compliance with legislative provisions related to managing minors’ funds. Beneficiaries will have access to the accumulated balance upon reaching the legal age, ensuring that the total amount granted does not fall below 10,000 dirhams. This measure aims to activate the provisions of the law on direct social support and ensure equality among all groups of children.
In the context of boosting employment, the council approved the establishment of a new training institute for construction and public works in the city of Fez. This initiative is part of the second compact program of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, where the institute will prepare qualified competencies in the construction sector and provide ongoing training programs for workers. The operational model will rely on a partnership between the public and private sectors to determine training systems and the admission criteria for Moroccan and foreign candidates.
To enhance the education system, the government council approved allowances for members of the permanent committee for updating and aligning curricula and programs. This is in line with the provisions of the framework law related to the education, training, and scientific research system. This committee and its working groups are tasked with formulating and continuously updating curriculum reference frameworks in line with contemporary educational developments.
The council concluded its session by reviewing a headquarters agreement aimed at establishing the regional office of the Hague Conference on Private International Law for Africa in Morocco, further reinforcing the strategic role of the Kingdom as a continental legal hub. The approval was granted for draft law No. 63.25, which ratifies this agreement signed in Rabat last June.
