The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration has launched the PRIS-AFCON program in conjunction with Morocco hosting the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2025. This initiative aims to enhance the human and social dimension of prison institutions by engaging inmates in national and continental dynamics surrounding this prominent sporting event.
The program seeks to allow inmates to positively interact with the atmosphere of the Africa Cup of Nations by organizing a mini-African football tournament. This event will gather 150 African inmates representing 15 nationalities on December 25, 2025, at the Tamesna local prison, which will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the program’s activities.
Additionally, the program includes screening the Africa Cup of Nations matches in various wards and recreational areas within prisons, using the broadcaster’s channel network. It will also organize analytical and interactive sessions led by former players, journalists, and sports enthusiasts, involving civil society associations related to the initiative through workshops and complementary activities.
In this context, several prison institutions, including the local prison of Oudaya in Marrakech, the local prison of Tangier 2, the local prison of Ras El Ma in Fez, the reform and rehabilitation center in Casablanca, and the local prison of Ait Melloul in Agadir, will host football matches in coordination with local clubs. Various activities and workshops will also be organized in festive atmospheres reflecting values of coexistence, sportsmanship, and a shared African identity.
Through this initiative, the General Delegation reaffirms its commitment to integrating male and female inmates of penitentiary institutions into various national and continental events, enabling them to engage positively in a manner aligned with rehabilitation and reintegration goals, thereby reinforcing the prison institution’s openness to its external environment.
