Authorities in the Safi region announced on Monday morning, December 15, 2025, that the death toll from the floods and torrential rains that struck the area on the evening of December 14 had risen to 37, as rescue efforts continue and assistance is provided to those affected.
According to the official statement, the heavy and unexpected rainfall led to flash floods that caused significant damage to infrastructure and property, resulting in considerable human losses. Fourteen individuals were transferred to Mohammed V Hospital in Safi for treatment, including two in intensive care, while the others are receiving medical follow-up after their condition stabilized.
Authorities confirmed that civil protection teams, public forces, and relevant services continue their comprehensive mobilization throughout the region through field search and rescue operations and providing support and assistance to the affected population, especially in the hardest-hit areas.
The floods disrupted traffic in several routes, submerged homes and shops, and swept away vehicles in some neighborhoods, prompting the authorities to enhance interventions to secure the affected areas and ensure public safety.
Local authorities emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance and precaution among residents, urging everyone to adhere to safety measures and avoid traveling through low-lying areas or near riverbanks during unstable weather conditions, given the ongoing severe weather fluctuations in the country.
These sudden floods occurred amid a spell of adverse weather conditions affecting several regions across the kingdom, with forecasts predicting continued heavy rain in the coming days. This situation necessitates coordination among local authorities and security entities to save what can be saved and mitigate the effects of this disaster.
