Marrakech Launches CCTV Control Room to Enhance Security in the Medina

On Tuesday, a monitoring and control room for the security CCTV system was inaugurated at the premises of the Tourist Police in the Medina of Marrakech. This initiative aims to strengthen urban security and improve the surveillance system within the historic city.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Marrakech Security Chief, Mohamed Amchichou, alongside several security officials. The control room has become an advanced center for observing and monitoring activities in the city, equipped with the latest technologies for comprehensive coverage of all entrances and exits, as well as public squares and historical sites, enabling rapid intervention by security teams when necessary.

In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, the regional security chief and head of the urban management units at the Marrakech Security Department, Abdelatif Kerdad, emphasized that the control room is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the camera surveillance system, especially with the significant influx of visitors and tourists to the Medina.

He explained that the room is equipped with 262 cameras, including 176 fixed cameras, 23 360-degree rotating cameras, 45 facial recognition cameras, and 18 license plate reading cameras, based on a detailed plan prepared by experts and technicians from the central security services.

The security official pointed out that the staff has undergone special training, and the control room includes additional facilities such as a meeting room for managing emergency situations, to enhance the speed and efficiency of security interventions.

This inauguration is part of ongoing efforts to develop the security system in the Red City and implement modern technology in monitoring, contributing to a heightened sense of safety among citizens and visitors, and ensuring precise oversight of all activities within the neighborhoods and historical sites of the city.
