The city of Agadir hosted a major conference on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, dedicated to showcasing the city’s readiness to host continental sports events, foremost among them the Africa Cup of Nations. The meeting, chaired by the Wali of Souss-Massa, Said Amzazi, and the region’s president, Karim Ashnaki, carried a striking slogan: “From the Africa Cup to the World Cup… Agadir at the Heart of the Sporting Event.”
The conference served as a platform for gathering various institutional, professional, and media stakeholders around one table, reflecting the urban development Agadir is experiencing and the ongoing dynamism in preparing its facilities for upcoming sporting events. During the opening, the Wali expressed pride in the extensive mobilization shown by the city’s components, asserting that the spirit of collective engagement has become a hallmark of this preparatory phase.
Following this, the hall was treated to a special artistic moment with the presentation of the official song celebrating Agadir’s hosting of the continental festival, directed by Hassan Gnaja and performed by local artists. The performance carried significant meaning regarding the warm Amazigh character of the city and its residents’ enthusiasm for the occasion. Attendees were also guided through a promotional video showcasing the open projects aimed at preparing the sports venues, along with the introduction of a new digital platform designed to facilitate services for residents and visitors.
In this context, several speakers shared their testimonies about the ongoing preparations, including the coach of Hassania Agadir, Amir Abdo, and the Secretary-General of the Moroccan Association of Sports Journalists, Hussein Alalali, in a session led by journalist Badr El Din Al Idresi. The conference also included a moment of recognition for several distinguished sports figures, including Badou Zaki, Said Shiba, Hanane Ait Haj, and others, as well as honoring the fans of Hassania Agadir, who earned the title of “National Fans Championship.”
The program continued with three thematic workshops, the first focused on the readiness of sports facilities and large-scale projects, the second on the role of tourism and cultural offerings in the success of major events, and the third dedicated to safety and the civil behavior of fans. These discussions underscored the importance of coordination among all stakeholders and the critical need to enhance the region’s sports, tourism, and cultural infrastructure, placing Agadir on a confident path to welcoming the most significant continental and international events in alignment with royal directives to support the nation’s sports prominence.
