Trump: Significant Progress in Resolving the Ukraine Conflict

The American President Donald Trump stated that substantial progress has been made towards resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

During a meeting with leaders from Central Asia, Trump emphasized the significant advancements in diplomatic efforts to end the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, affirming that these efforts are moving in a positive direction, despite the absence of a final peace agreement.

Trump remarked, “Russia and Ukraine… we have not achieved peace yet, but I believe we have made significant progress.”

His statements followed a day after the announcement by U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff, who reported what he termed a “tangible achievement” in the Ukrainian settlement process. He noted that the next stage would require intensive technical work to agree on security protocols regarding Ukraine. Witkoff expressed confidence in Washington’s ability to facilitate a peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv.

In a related context, the White House confirmed that preparations are ongoing for a U.S.-Russia summit in Budapest, despite the cancellation of a previously agreed date following a phone call between the two presidents. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not rule out holding the meeting in the near future.

For his part, Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, revealed during his visit to the United States that preparations are underway for the summit in Hungary, suggesting it may take place later this year. Budapest has also confirmed its readiness to host the historic meeting.

Putin and Trump had discussed the Ukrainian issue face-to-face during a summit in Alaska on August 15, with both sides describing the talks as “positive and constructive.” Following the meeting, Putin stated that a resolution to the crisis in Ukraine is possible if joint efforts continue at the same pace.
