“Hum” to Represent Morocco in the Official Competition of the Carthage Theatre Days

The play “Hum,” the latest production from the Anfas troupe, is set to compete in the official competition of the 26th edition of the Carthage Theatre Days, taking place from November 22 to 29, representing Morocco at this significant artistic event.

The play, featuring the writing of poet Abdullah Zarqa and directed by Asmaa Al-Houri, addresses themes of isolation, alienation, and difficulties in expression, alongside questions of identity in a complex and transformative world. The work employs an experimental approach that integrates live music with the performances of the actors, utilizing lighting as a dramatic element that contributes to character development and emotional rhythm, complemented by a scenography that aims to create a visual space that deepens the audience’s theatrical experience.

This performance continues the collaboration between Zarqa and Al-Houri, which has helped solidify their names among the leading figures in Moroccan experimental theatre.

In parallel to Morocco’s participation, actress Latifa Ahrar will receive a special tribute during this edition, in addition to her involvement in the international forum titled “The Theatre Artist: His Time and Works,” moderated by Moroccan researcher Saeed Karimi.

The event will kick off with a performance of “King Lear” by Shakespeare, featuring Youssef El Fakhri and directed by Shady Sarour. The previous edition of the Carthage Theatre Days, established in 1983 and overseen by the Tunisian Ministry of Culture and Heritage Preservation, awarded the play “La Victoria” the bronze Tanit and the best scenography award.
