The National Rally of Independents endorsed its vision regarding the initiative for autonomy and praised the participatory approach led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
On Thursday, November 20, 2025, in Rabat, the political bureau of the National Rally of Independents, chaired by Aziz Akhannouch, held a meeting focused on discussing and approving the final draft of the party’s vision concerning the updating of the initiative for autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty in preparation for submission to His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
At the beginning of the meeting, the political bureau members expressed their pride in UN Resolution 2797, viewing it as a new step that strengthens the initiative for autonomy as the only realistic and applicable solution to end the fabricated dispute over Western Sahara. They asserted that this international stance reflects the credibility of Moroccan diplomacy, which has been wisely and strategically led by His Majesty the King for decades, solidifying the kingdom’s presence and the strength of its approach on the international stage.
The political bureau also commended the solid participatory approach adopted by His Majesty the King in managing this national file, by involving political parties in the formulation and updating of the autonomy initiative, a methodology clearly demonstrated in the meeting held at the Royal Palace on November 10. The party considered this consultative framework a reflection of the royal trust in national capabilities, reinforcing internal unity and the gathering of various political forces around national constants.
During the meeting, Anis Birou presented a report summarizing the work of the committee tasked with drafting the party’s vision for updating the initiative, following a series of intensive meetings that reflected on the directives of His Majesty the King from his royal addresses, the contents of the development model for the southern regions, and Security Council resolutions, along with comparative experiences. These consultations led to the preparation of a comprehensive document presented for discussion to the political bureau.
Following an extensive discussion covering various political, developmental, and institutional aspects, the political bureau approved the final proposal, which embodies a serious commitment to opening new horizons for Moroccans held in Tindouf camps, ensuring their return to their homeland and reunification with their families, and their contribution to managing their affairs within their southern provinces, within the framework of a united and cohesive Morocco, as emphasized by His Majesty the King in his recent speech.
