The National Roadways Company of Morocco has announced the commencement of operations for the new highway connecting Tit Mellil to Berrechid, starting from November 27, 2025. The construction of this project cost 2.5 billion dirhams and represents a significant advancement in the development of the national highway network, thanks to its modern design standards, advanced equipment, and the speed at which the work has been completed.

This highway, designated as A31, spans 30 kilometers, directly linking the Casablanca bypass road (A1) at the Tit Mellil intersection to the Casablanca–Marrakech highway (A3), along with the Berrechid–Beni Mellal highway (A4) at the Berrechid interchange.

This strategically important section is expected to accommodate an initial traffic volume estimated at 20,000 vehicles per day, which will enhance safety levels and improve traffic flow across the Greater Casablanca area, while reducing distances and travel times for road users coming from the north and east heading towards the south and central regions. The road will also provide an alternative route to Mohammed V International Airport, alleviating pressure on the Casablanca-airport stretch that currently exceeds 75,000 vehicles daily.

The scale of the project is reflected in the construction of two interchanges: the first on regional road number 315 (known as the Mediouna road) to connect the highway with nearby municipalities, and the second on national road number 9 to ensure direct access to the airport and the city of Droua. The project further included the construction of four engineering structures to cross the Zeririf, Faida, and Himer rivers, along with 24 interchange facilities to ensure the continuity of local roadways.

The Tit Mellil–Berrechid road is the first roadway in Morocco designed from the outset with 2×3 lanes, in accordance with the latest international standards, incorporating innovative safety equipment that is used for the first time nationally to enhance road user protection in case of lane departure.

This project stands out as a product of purely Moroccan expertise, from engineering studies to construction execution. The National Roadways Company and its subsidiaries leveraged over 35 years of experience in managing major projects, enabling the completion of the work several months ahead of schedule.

Through this project, the company reaffirms its commitment to supporting the developmental dynamics in Morocco and enhancing the infrastructure required to host major international events, in line with the strategic directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
