Strengthening Moroccan-Somali Relations: A Meeting in Rabat Between Akhannouch and Bari

On Thursday, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch held extensive discussions in Rabat with the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Bari. They reviewed various issues of mutual interest and explored mechanisms to elevate the longstanding relationships between Morocco and Somalia, under the leadership of their respective heads of state, King Mohammed VI and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

During the meeting, Akhannouch emphasized King Mohammed VI’s commitment to enhancing the bonds of brotherhood and fruitful cooperation between the two brotherly nations. He reiterated Morocco’s continuous support for all initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability, while safeguarding Somalia’s sovereignty over its territories.

The Prime Minister also praised Somalia’s steadfast support for the territorial integrity of Morocco, particularly following Somalia’s vote on October 31, 2025, as a non-permanent member of the Security Council in favor of the historic UN resolution 2797, which affirmed the autonomy initiative as a fundamental reference for resolving the artificial conflict over Moroccan Sahara.

In turn, Hamza Abdi Bari conveyed the greetings of the Somali government and people to King Mohammed VI, noting that the discussions focused on ways to reinforce bilateral relations and open new avenues for economic and political cooperation between the two countries.
