Royal Palace Statement Regarding the Update of the Autonomy Initiative for the Moroccan Sahara

A statement from the Royal Palace:

“By order of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, a meeting was held on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Royal Palace, chaired by His Majesty’s advisors, Mr. Taib Fassi Fihri, Mr. Omar Azziman, and Mr. Fouad Ali El Himma, with the leaders of the national parties represented in the two houses of Parliament, in the presence of the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.

This meeting, based on His Majesty’s directives, was dedicated to discussing the updating and detailing of the autonomy initiative within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, in implementation of the royal decision communicated in His Majesty’s esteemed address to his loyal people on October 31, following the issuance of Security Council Resolution 2797.

This meeting aligns with His Majesty’s ongoing commitment to a participatory and consultative approach whenever it comes to the major issues of the country. In this regard, His Majesty’s advisors conveyed His Majesty’s insistence on consulting the political party leaders present on this vital matter that concerns all Moroccans, inviting them to submit their organizations’ proposals and suggestions regarding the updating and detailing of the autonomy initiative.

During this meeting, the political party leaders expressed their appreciation for the positive developments regarding the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, and their pride in the royal decision to involve national political bodies and various institutions and civil forces in developing a comprehensive, updated, and detailed proposal for the autonomy initiative in the Moroccan Sahara, under the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, ensuring the return of our brothers in the Tindouf camps, reuniting them with their families, and contributing to managing their local affairs within a united Morocco, as His Majesty emphasized in his recent address.

They also expressed their unwavering readiness under the wise leadership of His Majesty and their absolute support for the initiatives and ongoing efforts that His Majesty continues to exert in defense of the legitimate rights of our country to establish Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara, which have culminated in the latest Security Council decision that endorses the Moroccan autonomy initiative as a realistic and applicable solution, within the context of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as a basis for negotiations to reach a final solution to this regional conflict.

In response to this royal invitation, the political party leaders affirmed their commitment to submitting memoranda regarding this matter to the esteemed attention of His Majesty at the earliest opportunity.”
