More than 474,000 registered refugees and asylum seekers in Jordan, most of whom are Syrians.

A report from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Jordan revealed that the number of registered refugees and asylum seekers has reached 474,807 individuals, the majority of whom are Syrians, totaling 436,410 refugees, which represents 91.9%. Following them are Iraqis with 24,529 refugees, Yemenis with 8,820, and Sudanese with 4,284. Additionally, there are 324 refugees from Somalia and 440 from other nationalities.

According to the report, approximately 385,960 refugees (81.3%) live in urban areas, while 88,847 individuals (18.7%) reside in camps. The Commission has also recorded the voluntary return of about 152,000 Syrian refugees from Jordan to Syria from December 2024 until September 13, 2025, with expectations that the number of returnees will reach around 200,000 by the end of this year.

In a bid to support Jordan’s efforts in hosting Syrian refugees, the European Union recently provided an additional funding package of €80 million aimed at offering social protection and direct services to the most vulnerable refugees and promoting sustainable solutions for refugee displacement, in line with previously announced European commitments during the Ninth Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region.
