Omar Hilal: The UN Resolution is a New Victory Affirming Self-Rule Under Moroccan Sovereignty
Omar Hilal, Morocco’s permanent representative to the United Nations, stated that the approval of the UN Security Council for the proposal of self-rule under Moroccan sovereignty represents a “historic step” towards a definitive solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue, reflecting the increasing international support for the Moroccan initiative.
In an interview with the American channel Newsmax, Hilal clarified that the recent UN resolution indicates a clear shift in the international community’s stance regarding the regional conflict, emphasizing that “the Moroccan people celebrated this decision with rallies and events both domestically and abroad, viewing it as a victory for Moroccan diplomacy led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.”
The Moroccan diplomat stressed that this development reinforces the Kingdom’s position as a serious and reliable party in efforts to resolve the conflict, in line with a royal vision aimed at consolidating security, development, and stability in the southern regions of the Kingdom.
