Negative Exploitation of Social Media in Khouribga… Livestreams for Blackmail and Defaming Security Institutions

Yassine Balkajdi/

Irresponsible practices on social media in Khouribga continue to spark outrage, after an individual conducted a livestream on his Facebook page last night, making serious accusations against the fourth police precinct, claiming to be a victim of “rape and forgery.” This appears to be an attempt to evoke sympathy and sway public opinion against a security institution known for its discipline and dedication to duty. However, the true details of the case date back about a year and a half, when the individual assaulted a journalist within the premises of the Khouribga municipal council, an incident documented by witnesses who confirmed his disgraceful behavior. The fourth police precinct followed legal protocols and procedures before the case was brought before the judiciary, which issued a judgment imposing a three-month suspended sentence and a monetary fine on the individual.

Despite the judgment and the implementation of legal procedures, the same person reappeared in another livestream, repeating the same false allegations as if he were opening a new case, clearly attempting to mislead public opinion and garner sympathy. This has resulted in the spread of misinformation and negatively affected social media users. This behavior is a glaring example of the negative exploitation of digital spaces, turning them into tools for blackmail and defamation instead of using them to spread awareness and accurate information.

Conversely, many observers commend the efforts of the members of the fourth police precinct in Khouribga, who are recognized for their integrity, discipline, and proper application of the law in full compliance with judicial procedures. Consequently, observers and civil society groups are calling on the relevant authorities to intervene and put an end to such behaviors that tarnish the reputation of institutions and sow distrust among citizens, emphasizing the importance of deterring anyone who misuses social media to harm or mislead public opinion.
