Morocco Hosts the 93rd Interpol General Assembly to Enhance International Security Cooperation

The 93rd General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) began today in Marrakech, featuring high-ranking officials and police chiefs from the 196 member countries of the organization.

The opening session was marked by speeches from Abdelatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, and Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, President of Interpol, in the presence of Minister of Interior Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, and several senior judicial and security officials from Morocco, along with Interpol Secretary General Jürgen Stock and Secretary General of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers Mohamed Ben Ali Komane.

The session included a video presentation highlighting the evolution of the Moroccan police institution and its services, reinforcing the prestigious position that the Kingdom holds at both regional and international levels, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and the significant credibility and trust that Moroccan security institutions enjoy in combating terrorism and transnational organized crime.

The General Assembly serves as the highest administrative body of Interpol and represents the largest global gathering of law enforcement leaders, providing member countries the opportunity to strengthen their relationships and share expertise. This annual session will address major global trends in crime and security threats, including transnational organized crime networks, combating international fraud centers, enhancing police capabilities, supporting women’s participation in police work, reviewing the outcomes of the experimental “Silver Bulletin” project, and ratifying the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime.

During this session, which will run until November 27, the General Assembly is expected to elect new members to the executive committee and a new president of the organization, in addition to making key decisions regarding public policies, resources, programs, and finances related to international cooperation.
